FAQ

  • Why is wrapping only an option on stainless exhaust?

In order to wrap mild steel exhaust, they first need to be coated. Without coating them first, they will rust. We do not offer a coating for mild steel exhaust, and because of that do not offer them wrapped.

If you are planning to wrap your exhaust (or have us do it), it is recommended that you order the stainless steel exhaust because of its resistance to corrosion. Exhaust wrap is known to hold in moisture and can cause premature failure in mild steel exhaust over time.

  • What is the difference between stainless steel and mild steel?

Stainless steel is more corrosion resistant and can be left uncoated, unlike mild steel. Mild steel will need to be coated to prevent corrosion, if left uncoated it will rust. Stainless exhausts are made of 304 and backpurged.

  • What do you require to start building a set of custom exhaust pipes?

For the 650: The only thing required is your stock front header. Below is a picture of the piece needed. In order to keep costs as low as possible I reuse this part of the stock exhaust because reproducing it would cost both time and money.

header

For the 1100 and Road Star: Absolutely nothing!

  • What if I don’t want to send my front header (650 only)?

There is the Header Exchange Program. It requires a 100 dollar refundable deposit on the header and then your exhaust is built on a spare header already on hand.  Once you install your pipes, you simply send back your header and your 100 dollars (minus the 3 percent Paypal fee) is fully refunded. This is a great way to keep your bike on the road where it belongs.

  • How long does it take for you to build my exhaust?

Once the order is placed, it takes 3-5 business days to complete.

  • What size is the exhaust ?

The exhaust is made of 16 gauge mild or stainless steel. Vstar 650 tubing OD is 1.75″, while the Vstar 1100 and Road Star are 2″.

  • Do I need to do anything for the exhaust to fit on my bike?

On the 650, no.

For the 1100, the rear brake master cylinder may need to be relocated for clearance. The instruction can be found here, https://sites.google.com/site/vstar1100kb/home/5-modifications/brakes

  • Are the pipes coated and are the welds smoothed out?

All exhaust are sold in raw form. Stainless exhausts do not need to be coated since they are naturally corrosion resistant. Mild steel exhausts, need to be coated, whether that is high temperature paint or ceramic coating. All exhausts are tig welded together and are left untouched.

  • Can you build an exhaust that is not shown on your website?

Yes. Simply find a picture or create a drawing of the exhaust you want and email wryepipeworks@gmail.com and discuss exactly what you want.

  • Do the exhausts come with baffles?

All exhaust can be fitted with our stainless lollipop baffles. These are installed a couple inches away from the tips. The baffles help with the scavenging effect of the exhaust, do not change the sound level, and give you back the low-midrange torque that straight pipes lose.

If you prefer a quieter exhaust baffle, there are many different products that fit the size tubing we use (2″ for 1100 and road star, and 1.75″ for the 650)
